Drawing eXchange Format (DXF)

In 1982, Autodesk Inc wrote a file format specification to facilitate the exchange of technical drawings between CAD applications of various vendors.  DXF has undergone several revisions since then and is today the most widely recognized file format for CAD systems and technical drawing applications.

ZiPCAD products were written based on the popular DXF revision 14 (R14) specification.  ZiPCAD can read any revision, but writes strictly R14.

To view and print DXF drawings on a desktop computer, or to create DXF drawings to import into ZiPCAD, you can use any major CAD system.  There are also several freeware, shareware, and inexpensive commercial DXF viewers and CAD applications available, including QCAD, RockWare CAD Viewer, Able DXF Manager, and inViso Viewer.
